The Department of State Services (DSS) in Borno State, working in concert with forest guards, has intercepted a large cache of pharmaceutical supplies suspected to be destined for Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in the North-East.
Security sources confirmed that the seizure was made on Friday, June 5, 2026, in Kaga Local Government Area during a coordinated intelligence-driven operation targeting a known insurgent logistics corridor running through forested zones in the state.
Among the intercepted items were substantial quantities of pain relief medications, anti-malaria injections, antibiotics, and other pharmaceutical products, as well as basic consumables believed to form part of a battlefield resupply package assembled for active ISWAP combatants.
Sources indicated that the consignment was linked to efforts by the insurgent group to restock fighters who reportedly suffered significant casualties and operational setbacks during recent counter-terrorism operations conducted jointly by Nigerian security forces and the United States Africa Command (US-AFRICOM).
According to preliminary investigations, the supplies were being transported in deliberately small batches to evade detection by security patrols deployed along forest supply routes — a tactic consistent with known insurgent logistics strategies in the region.
Officials described the interception as a significant blow to ISWAP's battlefield support network, framing it as part of a broader and intensified campaign to dismantle insurgent supply chains that enable the movement of medical and material aid to remote militant enclaves deep within the Lake Chad basin.
While authorities declined to disclose specific operational details, they confirmed that all intercepted materials have been taken into custody and are currently undergoing forensic examination to establish the full scope and origin of the supply network.
The development points to a growing counter-insurgency focus on disrupting not just armed confrontations with ISWAP, but the logistical lifelines that sustain the group's operational capacity in the region's increasingly contested forest corridors.
