Bandits Strike Midnight, Abduct Six Including Toddler in Kebbi Community

Armed bandits have abducted six residents, among them a three-year-old child, in a late-night raid on Unguwan Dutse community in Wasagu Town, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

Security sources confirmed that the attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday, June 5, 2026, at approximately 12:40 a.m., when heavily armed men stormed the community from the direction of an adjoining forest believed to stretch into the Zamfara axis.

Among those taken are Lawal Jabir, 34; his three-year-old child, Ubaida Jabir; Fatima Jabir, 27; Mardiyya Fahad, 28; and her two children — bringing the total number of victims to six.

A distress call was logged at around 3:40 a.m., prompting the immediate deployment of a joint security team comprising police tactical units, military personnel, and local vigilante groups. However, by the time operatives arrived at the scene, the assailants had vanished into the forest with their captives.

Coordinated search and rescue operations have since been launched across surrounding bushlands and identified escape corridors, with authorities expressing determination to secure the safe return of the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice. Additional security patrols have also been deployed to reinforce the area's defence architecture.

Residents have been urged to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest security agency.

In a chilling twist, one of the abducted men had publicly raised the alarm over deteriorating security conditions in the area just hours before he was seized. Lawal Jabir had taken to social media to appeal to the Kebbi State Government to urgently address the escalating violence in Wasagu communities.

Quote
"Kebbi State Government should continue to stop the terrorism in Wasagu villages; if it goes like that, it is difficult for these people to vote for APC,"
he wrote — a post that now reads as a grim premonition of the fate that would befall him that same night.

The attack is the latest in a series of bandit incursions that have continued to terrorise communities across Kebbi and neighbouring north-western states, raising fresh concerns about the effectiveness of current counter-insurgency strategies in the region.
