Warri Royal Chief Tells Remi Tinubu To Stay in Kitchen, Out of Itsekiri Affairs

A senior Warri Kingdom royal father has courted controversy after publicly declaring that First Lady Remi Tinubu has no business involving herself in the affairs of the Itsekiri people — and that her proper place is in the kitchen attending to her husband and family.

The Alema of Warri Kingdom, High Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan, made the incendiary remarks at a public event in Warri, where he launched a broadside against the First Lady over what he described as unwarranted interference in matters concerning Warri and Delta State.

The royal chief questioned the constitutional basis of the First Lady's involvement in presidential affairs, insisting her role should be confined strictly to domestic responsibilities.

"Remi Tinubu has no place in the Office of the President. Her responsibility should be limited to her family. She should take care of her husband and children. She is sitting in Abuja instead of being in the kitchen taking care of her husband," he declared.

High Chief Uduaghan also took aim at what he portrayed as the First Lady's silence in the face of a rising tide of insecurity across the country, citing reports of kidnappings in Osun State and parts of northern Nigeria. He questioned her credentials as a mother figure given her apparent indifference to the anguish of families affected by such crimes.

"Children are being kidnapped in Osun State and the northern part of Nigeria. As a mother, she has no feelings. Is that the woman who calls herself a mother?" he said pointedly.

The royal father did not stop there, also voicing his exasperation over what he termed persistent meddling in Itsekiri communal affairs.

"We are not mincing words at this point; we are tired of the nonsense from the Itsekiris," he added.

The remarks have drawn swift reactions across social media, with commentators divided — some backing his criticism of the First Lady's perceived overreach, while others condemned the sexist undertone of his comments, particularly the reference to kitchen duties as the appropriate domain for a woman of her standing.

The Presidency was yet to respond to the comments as of press time.
