Minister of Works, David Umahi Defends Tinubu, Warns Against Politicising Insecurity

Minister of Works David Umahi has come to the defence of President Bola Tinubu amid growing criticism over Nigeria’s security challenges, insisting that the country’s insecurity problems did not begin under the current administration and should not be turned into a political weapon.

Speaking on the state of security in the country, Umahi condemned what he described as politically motivated attacks against the president, stressing that discussions surrounding insecurity must be approached with caution and a sense of national responsibility.

According to the minister, it is unfair to blame the Tinubu administration for a problem that predates its tenure. He maintained that safeguarding lives and property is a collective responsibility and warned against exploiting security concerns for political gain.

Umahi also questioned the recurring rise in violent incidents during election periods, expressing concern over what he described as a troubling pattern. He warned that anyone contributing to insecurity in pursuit of political power would ultimately face divine judgment.

Reaffirming his support for the president, the minister said he and many others remain committed to Tinubu’s leadership, noting that meaningful progress in governance and security requires patience, unity, and cooperation from citizens.

He further expressed sympathy for victims of insecurity across the country, including students who have been abducted, and called on Nigerians to pray for their safe return. Umahi urged citizens to remain steadfast, emphasizing that faith, discipline, and national unity are essential in overcoming the nation’s challenges.

The minister concluded on an optimistic note, expressing confidence that Nigeria would overcome its current security difficulties through collective determination and the support of God.
