The Oyo State Government has officially lifted the curfew earlier imposed on ten local government areas, which had been enforced in the wake of a kidnapping incident that occurred in Oriire Local Government Area.
The restriction was first announced on Tuesday, June 23, when authorities rolled out a 16-hour daily curfew across communities bordering the old Oyo National Park, as part of a broader strategy to bolster security and facilitate rescue efforts following the abduction.
A memo from the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Olanike Adeyemo, issued through the SSG's office and signed by Permanent Secretary Musibau Babatunde, confirmed that the curfew commenced on Wednesday and ran nightly from 4 p.m. to 8 a.m. Though initially slated to last just two days, the restriction covered Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo, and Atiba local government areas.
On Saturday, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, announced the curfew's suspension, stating that residents in the affected areas were now free to return to their normal daily routines.
Oyelade extended appreciation to residents for their patience and cooperation throughout the period of restriction, noting that their support had been instrumental in enabling security operations to proceed smoothly.
The commissioner further disclosed that the state government would continue to keep a close watch on the security situation across the previously affected local government areas, stressing that vigilance remained a top priority.
He also reassured residents that both the state government and security agencies remained committed to tackling the recurring problem of kidnapping in Oyo State, pledging sustained efforts to safeguard lives and property across the region.
