A clergyman identified as Pastor John Andreaz has sparked debate with a sweeping and provocative assessment of Nigeria's worsening security crisis, claiming that the forces driving instability in the country are so deeply entrenched that they transcend the capacity of any single administration — including that of President Bola Tinubu — to dismantle.
Speaking on the state of the nation, Andreaz acknowledged Tinubu's constitutional role as Commander-in-Chief but argued that the scale and structure of the problem far exceeds what one government can resolve, warning that even a future administration may find itself equally overwhelmed.
"The structure that is controlling the insecurity in this nation is beyond Tinubu," he declared, likening the country's situation to a military minefield. "Nigeria has been mined," he said, cautioning that rash or poorly calculated responses to the crisis could trigger catastrophic consequences, claiming that certain decisions could produce casualties surpassing those recorded during Nigeria's civil war.
The pastor made a passionate case for international intervention, describing the network behind the violence as "too strong" for Nigeria to confront alone. He expressed appreciation for what he described as the United States' presence and interest in Nigeria, voicing hope that Washington would follow through on what he characterised as a commitment to assist the country in addressing its security challenges.
Andreaz went further, alleging that the insecurity gripping the nation is not merely criminal in nature but serves as a cover for a long-term agenda to seize control of national structures and governance. He stopped short of predicting a wholesale religious conversion of Nigerians, but maintained that the ultimate goal, in his view, is the placement of the country's institutions under Islamic law.
He argued that while kidnapping and banditry exist in other nations, Nigeria's version of these crimes must be interpreted within this broader alleged agenda rather than treated as isolated criminal activity.
The pastor concluded by presenting himself as a prophetic voice, stating his belief that God regularly reveals information about Nigeria's future specifically to him — a claim likely to attract as much scrutiny as the political assertions that preceded it.
