A Nigerian man has sparked widespread debate online after revealing that a single act of financial generosity during a personal crisis was the deciding factor that convinced him to marry a woman he had previously considered his least favourite among three simultaneous dating partners.
The man, whose account has gone viral on social media, disclosed that he was romantically involved with three women concurrently, with his eventual wife ranking last in his affections at the time.
His turning point came when he encountered a serious personal problem and turned to the woman he loved most for a modest sum of ₦5,000. Her blunt refusal, insisting it was inappropriate for a woman to give money to a man, left him stunned. The second woman fared no better, ending the call before he could even state his request.
He then reached out to the woman he had largely ignored — and she sent him ₦10,000 without hesitation.
"My mindset changed," he declared, recounting how that singular moment completely reshaped his priorities.
The man used his experience to issue a pointed warning to women who rely solely on physical attraction to hold a man's interest, arguing that such an approach ultimately leads nowhere near the altar.
His narrative has since attracted a wave of reactions across social media platforms. While a section of respondents agreed that a partner's willingness to offer support in difficult moments is a reliable measure of genuine love and loyalty, others cautioned that choosing a life partner on the basis of one financial transaction was an oversimplification of a far more complex decision.
