Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested three women suspected of collaborating with ISWAP terrorists during a targeted operation carried out within an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.
The development was disclosed by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert focused on the Lake Chad region, in a post shared on X.
According to Makama, the arrests followed intercepted communication suggesting plans were underway to facilitate the movement of a woman toward a terrorist enclave, prompting troops of the 222 Battalion (Mechanised) to act swiftly on the intelligence.
The operation, conducted within the IDP camp in Konduga, resulted in the apprehension of the three female suspects, who are alleged to have played a role in enabling communication and movement between civilians and elements linked to the terrorist group operating in the region.
Military authorities confirmed that the suspects have since been taken into custody, where they remain pending further investigation to determine the extent of their alleged involvement in supporting insurgent activities.
Makama explained that the operation forms part of a broader, sustained effort by security forces to dismantle support networks and disrupt collaboration channels that continue to aid terrorist operations across the North-East region.
He added that investigations are ongoing to ascertain whether the suspects have ties to other individuals or cells within the wider terrorist network, with security agencies expected to provide further updates as the probe progresses.
