Popular Nigerian Comedian, Mark Angel's New Marriage Ignites Online Debate Over Bride's Age

The recent marriage of popular Nigerian comedian Mark Angel has continued to generate heated reactions on social media, with a Facebook user's spirited defence of the union adding fresh momentum to the online conversation.

Vera Ebere Nwosu, who shared her views in a post that rapidly gained traction across platforms, pushed back strongly against widespread claims that Angel's new wife is underage — dismissing such assertions as unfounded and irresponsible.

Nwosu argued that the bride is a fully grown adult, well within her rights to choose a life partner, and challenged those stoking the controversy to interrogate their own double standards before casting judgment on a public figure.

Taking aim at the hypocrisy she perceives in the backlash, Nwosu questioned whether critics would offer the same advice to a brother or close male relative in Angel's position. She also noted that the comedian's previous marriages had not endured — attributing this to incompatibility rather than any personal failing — and suggested that parting ways amicably was far healthier than remaining in a loveless or unfaithful union.

"If Mark Angel were your brother, would you advise him to marry someone much older than him?"
she wrote.

"Any woman above 20 is an adult and can make her own decisions. Isn't it better for two people to go their separate ways than to stay together and keep cheating on each other? At least everyone gets another chance at finding happiness."

Nwosu rounded off her post with a glowing tribute to the new bride, describing her as naturally beautiful even without makeup.

The post has since attracted a wave of comments from Nigerians divided over the marriage, with some agreeing with Nwosu's position while others maintained their reservations about the union.
