The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused its Vice Presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, of trying to hijack the party's structure in the North West region, particularly in Kano State.

In a joint statement, the party's Northwest Vice Chairman, Mohammed Rabiu Serina, and Kano State Chairman, Hussaini Isa Mariga, alleged that the former Kano State Governor is sidelining non-Kwankwasiyya members and blocking them from contesting elective offices on the party's platform.

The two leaders described themselves as pioneer members of the NDC, appointed by the party's National Leader, former Bayelsa State Governor Henry Seriake Dickson, before the party's formal registration.

They said their positions were later ratified through congresses and the national convention.

Serina and Mariga claimed they played key roles in building the party's structures across Kano State and the broader North West zone long before Kwankwaso and his supporters joined the NDC.

According to the statement, tensions escalated when Kwankwaso demanded full control of the party apparatus in Kano during state congress preparations.

The dispute led to the intervention of National Leader Seriake Dickson, who mediated a power-sharing agreement.

Under the deal, Kwankwaso and his supporters were granted 60% control of the party structure in Kano State, while the original party structure retained 40%.

The accusations highlight growing internal rifts within the relatively new NDC as it prepares for future elections, with competing factions jostling for dominance in key states.
